As of the fall season in 2006 Cider Mills from 5 beyond generations in New York will no longer be in business.
According to the New York Times, a stunning number of 30 Cider Mills (independent business owners) are
closing their doors. Why? Because of a new unfair and irrelevant
law.
Even though it is extremely rare for someone young or old to
become ill from Apple Cider, the FDA has put fear into the public
eye by
FORCING Cider Mills to put a sign out that reads ''Warning: this product has not been pasteurized and therefore may contain harmful bacteria that can cause serious illness in children, the elderly and persons with weakened immune systems.''
In addition to putting irrational fear into minds
of the general public about
fresh apple cider, a law has been passed that requires Cider Makers to spend
up to $30,000 to buy new equipment to hold up to their
unfair and irrational new standards. They are forcing small businesses
to pay up, or close down!!
These Cider Mills have been in business making quality apple cider for
many generations. They know traditionally how to make a quality and safe
product. People aren't getting
sick from quality fresh apple cider, and nobody seems to be
complaining about quality fresh apple cider. Regardless, the Food
And Drug Administration is working to stop the production of fresh
apple cider from New York Cider Mills. This law is also
stopping the traditions and enjoyment of families in New York from
buying fresh apple cider, and effecting the heart of the
Cider Industry (Independent Business Owners).
30 Cider Mills have shut their doors already
because they cannot afford to stay in business because of this new
law. If this law continues to spread to other states, Cider Mills
in Michigan, Ohio, and the rest of the country will also be forced
to close their
doors soon. Our country may be without traditional Cider Mills
within the next few years.
We can either watch the Cider Industry disappear as traditional Cider Mills are forced out of
business, or take action now.
Please take a moment to sign our petition, and to voice your opinion to the
governor of New York. Even if you are not from New York, please sign this
petition. Let's take action Now before Cider Mills in all states are
No longer allowed to make and sell fresh apple cider.
.
- I Demand that Cider Mills who make fresh apple cider from fresh apples be allowed to
make and sell fresh apple cider.
- I Do Not feel that Cider Mills should be forced to buy pasteurization
equipment that destroys the nutrients and taste of fresh apple
cider.
- I Disagree that there are major health risks with drinking fresh apple cider made from traditional Cider Mills operating a
clean and sanitary facility.
- I Also Demand that all Cider Mills be held to the highest
standards of making safe and natural fresh apple cider
through regular inspections!
- I Would like to see independent Business Owners (Cider Mill Owners and their Families) to Stay In Business throughout New York and Our United States Of America!!!
